Oil on canvas 30”x24”
To me this painting represents traditional womanhood and the pressures that inevitably came with it. The bandana on her head represents her working woman identity and the laundry behind her represents the domestic labor that was also expected of her. Her small frame and style is representative of the expectations linked to beauty standards and the fictitious looking clouds and grass are representative of the facade of harmony and sweetness that women are encouraged to portray. She exudes both strength and the disappointment that comes with linking her value to upholding these expectations.
*** I am a fur mom of 3 and they are just as obsessed with me as I am with them. So much so that there may be some of their hairs embedded in any of the paintings I paint. ***
